Last weekend, thousands of beers loving legends flocked to the Royal Exhibition Centre in Melbourne’s CDB for one of the best beer festivals of the year, the Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular. Ready for a weekend filled with good food, 'hoppy' friends and to wrap their taste buds around some of the world’s most unique brews from talented brewers all over Australia and New Zealand
At 12:00 each day, a sign that taps were pouring and the extravaganza had begun, the inaugural GABS' bell could be heard echoing throughout the hall. Beer stands quickly filled with smiles, cheers and beery banter.
A unique element to GABS is the eclectic mix of festival beers brewed especially for the event. It gives brewers an opportunity to get creative in their craft, experimenting with their wildest beery dreams and new recipes. For our brewers, it means jumping on the Pilot Brewery decks to produce tasty Pilot Batches. We saw Ales, IPLs, IPAs, Kolsch brews, coffee infused beers, sweet, sour, heavy hopped and strong. We sniffed, tasted and savoured until our heart's content....
Our trusty beer truck Clyde had made the trip all the way down from Byron Bay, to help our team serve a crowd of passionate Stone & Wood lovers. The star of the show was, of course, our delicious Pacific Ale alongside our heavy hitting Pilot Batch, The Hinterland Scotch Ale, especially brewed for the occasion.
As the afternoons went on, the smiles got bigger and the cheers got louder. A three-piece band had festival goers dancing on tables whilst incredible smells wafted from the hall to the balcony above. Brewers were sharing their top secret techniques whilst admiring first sip reactions from the rowdy crowd, as their hard work and craft were trialled and tested. The good beer scene was alive in Melbourne and it was incredible to see.
Another year, another unforgettable GABS. Cheers, Melbourne and cheers to everyone that dropped by our stand to say g’day! It’s safe to say, Australian and New Zealand good beer is in a great place. We’ll be seeing you this weekend Sydney and then on to share a beer with our friends across the ditch in Auckland, New Zealand. Cheers!
